There are 3 methods to make a finasteride 0.025% solution:
Method 1. Dissolve pure finasteride powder to an appropriate vehicle.
Method 2. Dissolve finasteride pills such as Propecia or Proscar into an appropriate vehicle.
Method 3. Dilute Essengen-F to make a 0.025% solution.
For method 1, you will need to buy pure finasteride powder and a scale that is accurate to milligram level. Finding a reliable source for pure finasteride powder is probably the biggest challenge for this method.
For method 2, you can add 15 Propecia pills (1 mg /pill) or 3 Proscar (5mg /pill) to 60 ml PG Solvent or PG Free Solvent (if you are allergic to PG). There are several challenges with this method: (1). Finding the reliable source to obtain Propecia or Proscar pills; (2) Dissolve finasteride out of the pills into the solution. Please be advised the pills are mostly consisted of filler which will not dissolve. So at the end, you will always end up with a cloudy solution, and you are not really sure if all the fin is completely dissolved or not.
Please be advised that you can’t use pure alcohol as the solvent, because alcohol evaporates too fast and it does not give fin sufficient time to be absorbed before it is evaporated.
Method 3 is the easiest and error-proofing way. All you need to do is to add 8.5 ml of Essengen-F to 60 ml of PG Solvent or PG Free Solvent (if you are allergic to PG) and shake it for 10 seconds. Then you have 68.5 ml of 0.025% finasteride solution. One unit of Essengen-F (60ml) is sufficient to make 480 ml of 0.025 percent topical fin, which is enough for 16 months if you use 1 ml of the diluted solution a day. The cost of doing this is very low. You just need to buy one unit of Essengen-F ($98) and 7 units of PG Solvent or PG Free solvent (7 x $9.99 =$69.93). The estimated cost is less than $10.5 per month.
How to make 0.025% topical finasteride with 5% minoxidil?
Method 1: Mix one whole bottle of Essengen-6 Plus (6% minoxidil with 0.05% finasteride) with one whole bottle of Essengen-5 NO PG Fast Dry, and you get 120 ml of 5.5% minoxidil with 0.025% finasteride, which is close to what you need. The mixture is a fast drying, non-greasy solution.
Method 2: 8.5 ml of Essengen-F to 60 ml of Essengen-5 NO PG Fast Dry and mix it. You get 68.5 ml of 4.4% minoxidil with 0.025% finasteride solution, that is close to your target concentrations. The mixture is a fast drying, non-greasy PG Free 0.025% finasteride with 4.4% minoxidil solution.

In order to get a solution with 5% minoxidil and 0.01% finasteride, you need to add 3 ml of Essengen-F to 60 ml of Essengen-5 NO PG Fast Dry and mix it.

1 ml contains 0.25 mg finasteride assuming all the fin in the tablets is dissoved. Thus, if you want to use 0.25 mg a day, use 1 ml a day.
