This blog is to review Theradome laser hair growth system, one of the many brands that belong to low level laser therapy (LLLT) (also known as laser phototheraphy -LPT). Some major LLLT brands includes HairMax, Igrow, Theradome, Irestore, and Capillus. Small scale clinical studies indicated LLLT may help halt hair loss and boost hair regrowth. Although LLT is less popular and less effective than the mainstream treatment like Minoxidil and finasteride, it warrants some examination.
What is the Theradome Laser Hair Growth System?
Like all other LLLT devices, it is FDA-cleared to be safe to use as over-the-counter (OTC) medical device (not FDA approved for hair loss treatment). Nonetheless, it is marketed as wearable device for the treatment of hair loss. It is supposed to be wore twice weekly ( 20 minutes each time). Theradome is said to use clinical-strength laser technology in treating both hair loss and thinning hair for men and women. More specifically, it is intended for men between the age range of 18-48 (Norwooed-Hamilton Scale between Class IIa to V )and women between 18-60 years who are suffering from hair loss (Ludwig Savin Scale between Class I to II ) (see image below). The skin type Theradome may work is Fitzpatrick Skin Types I to VI as shown below.
Theradome advises that your hair will be "cleaner, more manageable with improved luster and fuller body after 4 to 6 months, and you will expect thicker and longer hair and healthier scalp after 5 months to a year of continuous use. And results will continue to improve with continuous use after 5 months.
Theradome does not work for all hair loss type. It may only work for minor hair loss as indicated below.
Theradome does not work for all skin type. It may only work for light skin type as indicated below. Presumarly when the skin is darker, it alters the the laser energy being absorbed by the skin and make it inffective.
How does it work?
Theradome, when worn appropriately on the head and switched on, emits a red light, which is then absorbed by your cells. Theradome alluded that coherent laser light (578 nm) absorbed stimulates a rapid change in the metabolism rate and ATP production of the cells. This helps strengthen hair follicles or even awaken dormant follicles to start producing hair again.

Conclusion on Theradome
If your hair loss is mild and your main goal is to stop further hair loss, you can try lower level laser therapy (LLLT). However, if your hair loss is in an advanced stage and you want to regrow some of your loss hair, it is better to use FDA approved (instead of FDA cleared) products like Minoxidil and/or finasteride.
If you do decide to try LLLT treatment, Theradome used to a very good choice because of its high quality and relative low price (per laser diode) and being made in the USA. However, the landscape of LLLT has changed dramatically recently. Now laser helmets/caps with 272 laser diodes are available and for a even lower price, which makes Theradome no longer attractive.
If buget is a none issue for you and you want to have the highest number of laser diodes, you can consider Capillus Laser therapy Cap for Hair Regrowth. Otherwise, definitely consider Hair Covet laser cap 272 diodes for only $799.

May 23, 2020Does theradome have a different model with more diodes. 80 diodes is a very low number.
Bryant
May 28, 2020 AuthorTheradome has a different model, but with only fewer diodes. It is called Theradome EVO with 40 laser diodes. If you are interested in having more diodes, you can consider Hair Covet Laser cap that has 272 or 148 laser diodes. Not only Hair Covet has more laser diodes, it also has a more discreet looking than Theradome.
